Sustainability

The "green" MCG

THINKING GREEN,
ACTING SUSTAINABLY

Taking responsibility, especially when it comes to environmental issues, is an essential part of our corporate philosophy. As a partner of Ökoprofit, we have been consciously working on saving energy and production costs since 1998 and have sensitised our employees to the issue. What’s more, we now proudly bear the Ecolabel and are certified as a “Green Location”. Conscious, sustainable, green – these are the keywords for future-orientated management.

Austrian
Environmental Label

After almost a year of intensive scrutiny of the processes in the company and the various departments, we are now officially authorised to bear the Austrian Ecolabel as a GREEN LOCATION! This seal of quality for tourism, catering and cultural businesses was created in 1996 to demonstrate a company’s environmentally conscious management and social behaviour to the outside world.

As a Green Location, we want to show our commitment to protecting our environment and conserving natural resources. By being awarded the Austrian Ecolabel, we are authorised to hold Green Meetings and/or Green Events at our locations. With this seal of quality, we guarantee an ecological symbiosis between the event centre, organisers and visitors.

OUR MEASURES

PHOTOVOLTAICS

Together with Energie Graz, a large-scale project was realised on the roofs of Stadthalle Graz and Hall A. 1,512 photovoltaic modules with a nominal output of 385 kWp were installed on the 11,000 m2 roof area of Hall A. These provide Graz households with natural electricity – an output equivalent to around 170,000 kg/a of CO2 savings per year. These supply Graz households with natural electricity – an output that corresponds to an annual CO2 saving of approx. 170,000kg/a. A new feature of this model is that private individuals can participate. The photovoltaic system has already been extended by a further 780 modules on the roof of the Stadthalle Graz.

EVVC

We set international standards with our long-standing membership of the EVVC, the European Association of Event Centres. The programme “fairpflichtet” has formulated ten guiding principles according to which our business activities are aligned. From responsibility to the common good, conscientious use of resources and energy, transparency, respect and strategic action, the aim here is to assume corporate responsibility. We take a leading role in the implementation of these points.

Energy efficiency
  • LED lighting: We are gradually replacing conventional light bulbs and powerful spotlights and ceiling lights with energy-saving LED lamps.
  • Switching off devices: Our employees are required to switch off their work devices (PC/monitor) every day after work to minimise power consumption.
Waste management
  • Waste separation: We have introduced a comprehensive waste separation system that promotes recycling and reduces waste.
  • Reduction of single-use materials: We avoid single-use products and use reusable alternatives, e.g. reusable drinking cups at events.

MCG wire donkeys

We’re turning the wheel… because our employees have both e-bikes and conventional bicycles at their disposal to enable them to cycle between locations.

Promotional gifts

When purchasing promotional gifts, advertising materials and office supplies, we also pay attention to the aspects of low-waste, reusable products made from sustainable raw materials and products with a regional character.

The humming must not be silenced!

The MCG always has ideal locations. Since September 2022, this also applies to the bees. This is because the MCG is now also a partner in the BeeWild social project with numerous national and international companies. In this way, it is creating new habitats for pollinators in the Styrian capital.

Travelling by public transport

The MCG is easy to reach by public transport.
Graz Ostbahnhof railway station is only 500 metres away from the Messeplatz site. Congress Graz and the sports facilities of Stadion Graz-Liebenau GmbH are also perfectly connected to the public transport network.

Accessibility

We attach great importance to accessibility to ensure a pleasant visit for all guests. We offer barrier-free access, lifts, special toilets and adapted seating.
