25 years of Riverdance: The original is coming on a big anniversary tour in 2023!
The myth began a quarter of a century ago: Ever since the shoes of the Riverdance dancers clattered across the stage in Dublin in 1995, more than 27.5 million viewers have cheered for the most successful dance show to date. The enthusiasm for the breathtaking performance of Irish tap dancing is still unbroken after 25 years. The big anniversary show is coming to Germany and Austria from February to March 2023. The fans can look forward to a revised and modernized version of Riverdance: Innovative and spectacular lighting technology, elaborate LED walls and new stage and costume designs will ensure a unique dance spectacle. If you can’t stand Irish tap dancing, you have to see the original – and that’s still Riverdance! The grandiose show can also be experienced on March 25, 2023 in the Graz Stadthalle!
The Story
The show tells a moving story about the multifaceted fate of the Irish people: about emigration, farewell, departure and homecoming. Riverdance also shows the interaction and clash of different cultures. With perfect body control and at a rapid pace, the dancers present a spectacular performance of Irish passion and international dance styles such as flamenco, breakdance and Russian folklore. The traditional music played live, for the composition of which Bill Whelan Riverdance even received a Grammy in 1997, is characterized by depth, longing, but also hope and confidence. For the 25th anniversary show, Bill Whelan re-arranged the original soundtrack and brought the well-known, mesmerizing Riverdance music into the present day. The dancers bring the history and culture of Ireland to life with synchronized dance perfection and dreamy costumes!
The press writes about Riverdance: “Breathtaking perfection” (Die Welt), “Greatest dance spectacle of all time. Respect!” (Süddeutsche Zeitung).
For the 25th anniversary, Riverdance is catapulted into the 21st century and lets the audience feel the elementary power of their music and choreography up close. Fun fact: The cast of the upcoming tour consists partly of dancers and musicians who weren’t even born when the first performance took place in 1995.
